Mary Coustas is best known and loved in this country for being someone else, most notably Effie, the desperate and dateless high-haired Greek girl who the comedian and actress has embodied for almost three decades. But more recently, we’ve seen a more personal side to Mary as she shared her decade long struggle to conceive a baby. After enduring 23 rounds of IVF, miscarriages, and selective reduction after conceiving triplets before the tragic stillbirth of her daughter, Stevie, Mary is now a gushing mother to her second daughter, Jamie.
“I was just dealing with the greatest hits of love”, she says. “Now I’ve got the whole catalogue”.
Mary talks candidly to Mother Zen about how she is adapting to motherhood – the role of her life. And how her unimaginable heartache and persistence to get to this point has made her the mother she is.
“I know I’m a better mother because of it. I’m much more present. I’m much more grateful, much more in awe of the fact things can work out..”
~ Mary Coustas, Comedian and Mother.
