News anchor and public speaker Susanne Latimore’s world was turned upside down just before Christmas in 2013 when her then ten year old son, Manning, was diagnosed with cancer, a huge and aggressive malignant tumour protruding from his tiny chest. After enduring months of chemotherapy, the decision was made to operate, a risky procedure, which Susanne had to face her little boy may not survive. Not only did Manning pull through but miraculously doctors managed to remove all of the tumour in one go, taking out three ribs and half of his lung in the process. Almost two years on Manning is cancer free and back to his old self. Susanne says the harrowing experience has made her a better mother (to both her children): more present, more connected and more in love. Here she shares some of her hard earned mother wisdom on how to make the most of the time we’ve got with our children.
