Tim Brown is a father of three and one of Australia’s foremost Vedic Meditation Teachers who has taught some 3,000 people to meditate, including me, who who leant when I was pregnant with my first baby, a skill which I know has saved me – as mother and a woman.
It’s a simple practice – just twenty minutes twice a day is all that’s required – which Tim calls the ‘householder’s meditation’ because we can all manage to fit it into our daily schedules, no matter how busy we are. Yet it is life changing. Meditation helps make you calmer, more focused, less stressed, less grumpy and, most importantly for new mothers in particular, you need less sleep!
Tim talks to Mother Zen about the importance of reconnecting with ourselves when trying to manage a young family, and how meditation is one surefire way of doing that.
“Mothers need to work out how they can give to themselves and hit the pressure valve and fill up their own tank. And that’s a challenging idea, but that’s what’s required to be be able to really enjoy motherhood and parenthood”.
